A few years ago it was evident to everyone because we dressed according to the function or place we were going. Now, the "fashion" people have sold many of us on the crap they harp which is stupid and is junk thrown together to get you to spend your money on it.
Nowadays, you hardly hear anyone say "I'm going to dress up". To answer your question, you would wear dress shoes with a suit, a dressy dress, etc. Sneaks, flops, grubbies, shoes without backs, etc., are casual or less.

Dress shoes usually mean a more conservative shoe used for special occasions. They may have beading or some satin/silk touches that make the shoes unwearable on a day to day basis.
Casual shoes usually mean shoes that are comfortable enough to wear all day and can be worn anywhere. These also may be shoes you wouldn't really care about if they got dirty or stepped on.
But personally, I am the type that wears stilettos with jeans, so to me there is no difference! :)

Dress shoes are the ones you wear in curtain occasions.And casual shoes are the ones you wear all the time.

Casual shoes are like tennis shoes,every day sandals,house shoes.Dress shoes include a wide variety flats,heals,boots you know shoes that you would wear if you were going out to church,or dancing

dress shoes are ones your wear on certain occasions. Casual shoes you can wear everyday.
