I'm going to college in Tokyo for the next year so I'm going to get a cell phone plan when I'm there. Is there any phone that i can get a sim card for when i come back to the us and use it over here? The Japanese technology is just so much more advanced i dont wanna bother with these crappy american phones, theyre practically like paperweights in comparison.

Maybe Vodafone or docomo or something?

Probably you need to show any domestic IDs to buy cells in Japan. Alien registration card or something.

The phones, they don't work in US basically, originally.

2 reasons.
1) Most cells in Japan are SIM-Locked.
2) The phone network system is different.

Ask your Japaense class mates while you are in Japan. Some of them may know how to do (to unlock the SIM).
Also you better gather much informations about the American cells standard.

As long as the phone you get is Quad-band your good. The US is the only place that locks there phones to work solely with one provider. So any Quad-band phone you get will work with a Cingular, or T Mobile SIM card. Check out myworldphone.com
