Definitely Charlie Parker does it for me the most of these two choices but John Coltrane is on an equal par for me. Parker & Coltrane are my two favorites.
Miles Davis was great on many levels though.:
*Being at the forefront of many jazz genres - bebop, cool, fusion for one
*Discovering and giving breaks to many greats - Joe Zawinul, John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Mike Stern, John Scofield, to name a few.
*His great bands
*His trumpet style. I prefer his muted sound. He seems to lack a vibrato and the ability to produce the bright high notes that Dizzy Gillespie got. But thats just his style.
