I've wrote with permanent maker on some shirts and I need to wash them. What do I soak the shirt in before washing them so that the permanent maker doen't bleed out ? I was told what to do last time I had to do this but that's been like 10 years ago and I forgot... Can anyone please help me.. Thank you..

it was like salt or baking soda

I thought you soak the shirts in salted water. It's supposed to set the color. In fact, any clothing that has a potential to bleed color can be soaked this way to prevent bleeding onto other clothing.

I believe you soak the clothes in cold water first.

Soap and water if you want to test it.
If it bleeds you need to buy a different brand.

You should try baking soda.
