that's just it. Your Italian and you will stick up for your country NO MATTER WHAT. Those of us who are not Italian and look at the situation objectively see that there is something wrong. Italy is a good team, I'm not going to pretend, but the best in the world? the best in the World Cup? The reason why people don't want you to enjoy your victory is because it can hardly be called a victory. You had a semi-easy group, a few lucky breaks. And one of the most controversial finals in World Cup history. The people (like myself) that are semi-familiar with Italian football and the way Italian teams play know that there is something more than suspicious with the whole Materazzi situation. People that say Italian teams are cheaters, are 100% right, not every single player but your leagues and national team are known for it. You can't ignore history and present situations. Look at what is happening to Italian clubs now.

Cheating aside, there is always a problem with accepting World Cup winners, it's just intensified because of Italy's past. They played well, but not AS well as other teams, especially France, look at the situation objectively: France was playing better football, point blank, announcers said it, I've even heard a few Italians say it, now don't you think it's wrong that the game went into penalty kicks and it just so happens that Henry is out with a injury (which may or may not be an Italian fault, i'm not pointing any fingers even though it's very likely) and Zidane, there best striker, had just been ejected from the game because an Italian player provoked him. He shouldn't have done it, but you see it in Italian football all the time, you go into half-time and come out an Italian player suddenly provokes someone or fouls someone the team considers a threat. You see it in alot of leagues but Italian leagues and national team are known for it. Look at it objectively, really now, you call that a victory?

If that were one of my teams, I wouldn't be celebrating. And if i did, it would be a little tainted by the facts.

Point blank, they are not the best in the world and it's very easy to accuse them of cheating when they are known for it.

Well said Mimi.
I do have to state though, that I was in Italy a few weeks ago and I can assure you, no one there cares what the French think. The guy headbutted an Italian player!!!! Did he think he wouldn't get a red card for that? I find it amusing how the French call the Italians cheaters when they had a gimme penalty kick. That hurts any opposing team far worse than having a guy taken out in the final part of extra time. Do the French really think Zizou would have scored 2 goals in that time? One to win the game and the other for the gimme they got in the first period.

Laughable. Its rare I see people go on and on about something like this when it didn't matter anyway in the final outcome.

I'm French, I'm not here to insult the Italians, but you should understand, that when a country reaches the final, lots of hopes are being held, and all those hopes are shattered in moments. I congratulate all you Italians.
But, the favourite, Zidane, that was his last World cup, that is why, most people wanted him to end his career with a trophee in his hands. Italy could have won it next time. But that, that was Zidane's only time.
The only reason why you are being called "cheaters" is because of the fact that Materazzi insulted Zidane 3 times, and the fact that a few clubs had been caught in a match fixing scandal after the world cup.
And on this website, people who supported France, are just pissed off and angry, that is why they are taking their anger out like this.
I have to admit, I never hated that country before and never will. Its a very nice country Italy, but I have to admit, I was extremely sad and angry. Now, I'm not angry, just sad. But I still believe that it was a big achievement for France to have reached the final.

So the French and the Italians should smile and shake hands. Stop looking back, and start to prepare for the next match on the 6th September 2008.

I love Italy and I agree! The Italians deserve to celebrate their victory over France. I'm half Italian, living in the US and I was supporting the Italian team since the begin.

So you know, I watched the World Cup in 1982 with Paolo Rossi,
I went outside on the streets of Vancouver to celebrate with all the Italians.
This year was somewhat different, like I said previously they should have been eliminated in the first round.

Hi ...EL TORO ITALIANO

A victory is something you should be proud of no matter what. Despite what anyone else thinks you know in your heart who the true champions are. People can call Italians whatever they what but the fact remains that we won the World Cup and the trophy is in Rome...Don't ever let people in here intimidate you into thinking that Italy didn't deserve to win.
Yes it's been 24 years since our last victory and let's enjoy it with pride for our champions The Azzurris!

TO THE FRENCH GIRL: ZIDANE HAS WON A LOT IN HIS CAREER; WORLD CUP, EUROPEAN CUP (ALWAYS CROSSING WITH ITALY), 2 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, DON'T REMEMBER HOW MANY ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
SHOULDN'T A CHAMPION LIKE HIM DO SUCH A STUDIP CRIME
I'M STILL ANGRY WITH TOTTI WHO WAS SENT OFF LIKE A STUPID BOTH IN COREA 2002 AND IN THE LAST EUROPEAN CUP
