hi,
i do give 100% but many employees donot.
i always ask the employyes in friendly manner to do tasks.
i may even say to them : please go get the bathrooms clean or this or that firmly but i tell them iam not being mean, just need it done.
i have been accused by my general manager of being over bearing. its just that when the resturant is a wreck(dirty) i need all hands busy cleaning till next rush.
we all do laugh, talk and have fun too.
iam not a brown noser. ive always worked hard, even when i was a regular employe as a waitress making only $2.25 an hour plus tips.my job is to deligate , so i cant see why my manager would say that i was overbearing.
she and the other main manager stay on the telephone making personal calls alot throughout the day.
weve discussed this in meetings, it changes briefly, then back to talking.
i take my job very serious.
i want to treat customers right and make our store the best.
if there are 3 managers in store, many times iam the only one

Listen you sound like a good employee and hard worker. Ppl will take advantage of that....I would seriously look for another job. It's not going to get better.

Well, I answered your similar question last night, but I will bite again.
While your goals are admirable I think that you are taking an off-the-cuff remark way too seriously and giving it far more attention than is warranted.
You sound like you may be a little over-sensitive and need to learn how to relax a bit and not take things too seriously.
Taking your job seriously is good, but you sound a bit like a perfectionist. It's okay to enjoy your time at work too and when you're employees know they can enjoy themselves a bit, as long as they are getting their work done, they will end up being more productive than if you are constantly nagging at them.
Ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities and if you find that they are consistently not completing their duties satisfactorily, tell them in a private meeting. If it keeps up then terminate them. Being on them every minute of everyday is not productive. Regular progress meetings would be more effective. That way they feel empowered knowing their accountabilities and objectives and getting them done on their own, within specified timeframes.
My advice: chill out, relax a bit. If your manager isn't worried about it, you shouldn't be either.

I have often been in the same situation, and have reached the conclusion that my social skills are lacking somehow. I am focused on doing my job and work is just work. My co-workers are not friends, nor do I want them to be. Perhaps if you were more personally involved with co-workers off site, they might be more cooperative. I don't know. Could it be that many people are not motivated to define their job as you do? Would a list of tasks assigned on a rotating basis and distributed by the boss help? Do you have the authority to assign work? And I don't mean just the job description. It also means having the full backing of the boss.

I think you are overbearing. Instead of telling these employees what to do when you need it, you should meet with them at the start of the shift and tell them what's expected of them throughout the day and emphasize what needs to get done during rush hour. Acknowledge and recognize their efforts when you see them doing what they're supposed to, and as for those that don't, speak with them individually at the end of the day, and let them know what they need to do otherwise, there will be disciplinary action. This is called managing, managing should not be confused with ordering people around or as you stated, just delegating responsabilites. As for the co-workers that stay on the phone, they are not your problem, concentrate on yourself, remember, this is business.

sounds like its time for a staff meeting--1 with ALL employess and1 with just the 3 managers--
go prepared with specific guidelines and expectations and repercussions for duty derilictions--
if nothing can be resolved, find another watiress job--there are plenty out there--
if you are the person in charge of a specific shift and not a "manager" just make sure you record the slackers name and action in the manger's log during each shift--tehn the responsibility will fall on the GM's shoulders.
if the restaurant is a mess and the health inspecter comes in and cites the store, maybe things will change.

A meeting is not going to do it....I don't know how big the company is that you're working for but I would just go over their heads, to the district manager or the owner or whoever. If you are working for a smaller company you may not be able to get results this way, but if you work for any kind of corporation you just need to keep going up the food chain until you get to someone who cares.

I would discuss it in the next meeting and when the slackers start to slack hang up a few reminders, or offer incentives for the people who are there to work not goof off..... like a drawing , or employee of the month per shift with special parking are 7 free food, or do not consider the goof off's for a raise.... that shouls work!

don't get offended but it sounds like you are lacking people skills. You say your job is to delegate. I think your job is to manage. There is a difference. have you considered taking some management courses and if you can not do that get some books on this subject and read them. Learn to manage people and you will be fine.

Sounds like you are on the right track as long as your employees understand your motivation is faultless. If a man were doing what you're doing, he would be called a go-getter. Unfortunately, a woman is usually just called a b#$*h. Sounds to me like the upper management is a feeling a little threatened.

if i was you, i would stop giving reasons why i have asked them to do a certain task. don't worry about the managers, that is what managers are like. and if you can, take a step back from keeping your head down and working to assess the current situation and maybe assign just 1 person to clean during the slower periods.
