I started to ween myself of it in 2001
You start by limiting when and how much you smoke.
stop buying and loose the numbers for people that you view as only dealers.
Tell everyone you quit..
Make sure you have something to do with your time like work, study, shag, exercise, reading etc.......
You start anticipating setback ad lean to deal with them and most of your friends will stop trying to get you to smoke......There is a lot more that could be said or done but that it for now.

Frankly, the best way is by giving up your life! The stuff has eaten you up and will definitely kill you sooner or later.
So what stops you from killing yourself first?
You may wonder what the f**k I'm talking about....
As long as you're alive, there'll be some kind of craving or the other... What I am suggesting to you have worked for thousands.. and you know what? the beauty of this therapy is that many of such people who took this step are still ALIVE today!

The best way to give up smoking canabis is by giving up your life and taking up another man's life... Be someone else.. someone clean, good and desperately in love with God! You have to get to some crusade ground or some charismatic church and ask be prayed for and counseled. At the end of this, you'll probably start the process of DYING to self and LIVING a new LIFE in Christ!
I wish you the very best!!!

You will probably know that smoking it over a long time can and does often lead to mental health problems. I have seen it first hand so never think it's not true. I have seen young lads on a psychiatric ward who will always have mental health issue solely due to the long term effects on the brain of cannabis. Don't get into the uppers to compensate the downers...just inviting more trouble. Not preaching...just telling you in case you didn't already know. That's honestly the best answer I can give you. I'm not some snoot who thinks it should be completely outlawed either...I tried it once but didn't like it. Drugs are often used daily when there is something you want to avoid in life....that life seems a bit overwhelming....is that you? If it is...try looking at what scares you in life. Best wishes.

Seriously, go to an AA or NA meeting. Those people know how to stop and can give you needed support. You may need to stop hanging around friends that still puff. You can also substitute physical activity for a natural high. You would suprised how addicting jogging and running can be once you start feeling the difference in your stamina and strength. Plus you'll be tired after. Stay away from anything that offers a quick-fix, it almost always ends up bad.

In the american prison system they have a programm that uses acupuncture and therapy of some sort to help people break addictions. I think they use it on the crack and smackheads but with a very high success rate.
Acupuncture will not make you stop but it could help with the physical and mental withdrawal symptoms. Especially for the first 72 hours it would be of help.
And the one thing - determination and purpose - no use to say you have to give up for the sake of your health because you might just end up down the pub instead. You have to actually WANT to give up ;-))
Take care

I watched this Paul Mckenna show once and he said the best way to give something up is to associate it with things you find repulsive .So for instance say you hate tomato ketchup next time you smoke pour that onto the spliff and then squeeze fore finger and thumb together whilst looking at this repulsive thing. Then whenever you feel like a spliff squeeze them two fingers together. This must be repeated a number of times so don't give up and good luck. Also don't forget exercise this helps you sleep!!

Mate i know exactly what u mean... I found that you have to keep ureself busy. I play football at a reasonably high level so i train hard 3 times a week. So i never have probs sleeping on those nights. Chewing gum is very good also as i think anyone who smokes knows that when u have a cig after chewing gum the taste is diabolical! So that helps..! Just keep ure mind busy. I feel for ya man..

Like it says on Why Don't You - get up, switch off and do something less boring instead!

My advice is to get out of the house and break down all the associations you have with spliff smoking e.g. certain TV shows, munch etc. - do something else instead and keep busy.

I suggest you do some exercise and wear yourself out so you can have a good night's sleep. Have a warm bath and put some lavender on your pillow...

Find new friends with better things to do...

I've never tried to give up, but my brother did recently. He smoked everyday for about 10 years, so it was a little bit hard for him. As he only smoked Cannabis, when he wanted to give up, he went on to normal cigarettes for a few weeks. That way, he could carry on with the habit whilst getting over the lack of funky stuff hehe. Then he gave up cigarettes as normal, with chewing gum and lots of eating. Good luck.

My best advice, as you obviously want to, is to go see your doctor and chat it over with him.

They tell us that the dreaded weed is not addictive - well, not like class A drugs etc. etc.

Half the battle is WANTING to. You just need some help and support. And it will do you the world of good - my ex smoked the stuff and eventually became paranoid, didn't go to work (he was self employed) and a total pratt. So it's not as harmless as some people think.

Good luck.
