I was wondering if any of you can give me some advice, a new person just joined my firm and i had the unfortunate pleasure of being aquainted with him. He is relatively new to the field although he is 4 years older than me. He is very intrusive and always insists on knowing what i am doing and everytime he comes to my desk he stares at my screen to see what i am doing...and likes probing me for answers to get to his greedy goals...i find him to be pompous and arrogant and stupid yet he thinks he is intelligent...how do i deal with such a person....i am also unfortunaltey a nice guy and good at what i do....but i have no interest in associating with or helping such a person....what should i do?

Reason with the person If this does not work then try truing off your screen....go to the bathroom Nice guys can talk up their needs if you believe in you speak up cause if you are with a firm I assure you standing up for yourself looks a lot better than running away from a problem.
If you need to get him off your nerves go to the person you report to and explain you have a conflict and need help
So put your socks on and talk up for Pete's sake.

That is awful. Try to tell him in a polite manner that you are busy now and you will see him later. If he is looking at your computer screen let him know that you can't work with someone looking over your shoulder. Mainly whenever he comes around as I said just say you are busy and catch you later. (way later)

tell him you are in the middle of something and you don't like people looking over your shoulder don't answer his ? right away then make him repeat himself because you weren't paying attention the first time it may take awhile but he will start bugging some one else eventually if you just don't act friendly you can still be a nice guy just distant

You've got to be a "not-so-nice" guy and tell this jerk how you feel.
There's really no other way to get rid of the pest. And you've got to make it VERY clear that you do NOT want his company.
Anything less just won't work.

You need to set up an program that deals with a specific problem that has no meaning in your company, and allow him to steal and run with it. Maybe it will embarasse his ego
