She should charge him a nominal fee, if he seems willing. I've designed several people's tattoos, and it is flattering to know someone is wearing my art, but it's not too soon for her to learn that her talent can be a legitimate business. Too many artists give away too much of their work and consequently never take their own work seriously.

CHARGE!!! Flattery is not proper compensation, and to advise her to just 'be flattered' is fostering bad habits in your daughter, especially if she wants to be a professional artist someday!
Look. Women make .70 on the dollar anyway. Women artists throughout history have had their acheivements and talents undervalued. I've spoken recently with a woman in an artistic field that is dominated by other women artists (botanical illustration), and she gets upset all the time because the other women in her field CONSTANTLY undervalue their work (like selling a painting that took weeks to complete for $200. Would you work for weeks and weeks for a measly $200??!) - This attitude has served to hurt her whole industry, because then patrons think that everything should be super cheap!
Your daughter is young and is not yet a professional, but she should charge this friend something. He's going to pay probably upwards of $100 to get this tattoo made, isn't he? Then why wouldn't he have to pay for the tattoo design itself? There are people who make a very good living just DESIGNING tattoos, not even inking them on people.
Do your daughter a favor and teach her how to conduct herself professionally now, before she opens herself up to get taken advantage of.

? Tattoos are no longer trashy as somebody else reported. My mom has tattoos and that i've got no longer any objective of having any. So what if your daughter gets tattoos whilst she's older? She's gonna do what she needs whilst she gets a definite age anyhow. Tattoos are not undesirable. might you quite her have a pair tattoos or do drugs? If tattoos are the worst element that your daughter gets whilst she grows up then you definately're placing a great occasion on your daughter. My mom has tattoos and that i do under no circumstances desire a tattoo. My sister needs a tattoo whilst she gets older yet that would not advise she's gonna be a foul individual. Get each and all of the tattoos you % and be a good mom. as long as you're a good mom you haven't any longer have been given something to rigidity approximately. ?

I don't know about charging, but she should ask to go to the tattoo parlor and watch the tatto being done. That way she can get to know some of the tattoo artists. If they like her art they might throw some work her way again sometime. Or maybe she can get feedback from them about her drawing.

I don't know, if she has already agreed to do it without charging then she shouldn't spring it on him now. U should however encourage her to sell her art. My cousin started off selling his art to tattoo artists it is much easier to go through them, plus they can recommend and call on her if they are in need of her talent.

find out if its for fun or what. One can do it for a good cause, so long its been acknowledge. For instance, take a picture of the art work on the hand. This could very well be her portfolio for her future.

If she doesn't charge him he needs to give her the credit so people know her art.

I think she should charge a some fee because the artwork is her property. It's great that someone likes her work!

It depends on what your state licensing laws are - in some states it is a felony/misdeamor to have unlicensed art on any public surface. Tell her to wait until she is 16 and then I believe that it is legal!@
