Tom & Jerry, and it is Hanna-Barbera who did T&J from 1955 through till at least 1958. Before them it was Fred Quimby from 1941 - Nov 1955.
The first T&J was produced by Rudolf Ising on 20 February 1940.

My favourite H&B is probably Scooby. As a kid it was Godzilla but now that show just looks weak.
