Emo is the new "scene" in rock music, coming from Skater/punk and earlier grungers and goths. Most of poprock music is now classed as emo, because it's appealing to the new generation of listeners, just like skater/punk was a few years ago.
I wouldn't say emos are any more angsty than other groups, or any more miserable than them, the whole premise of post-punk music is that the world is unjust, and love is unfair, you can see that in the happy ska music of Real Big Fish even - though the steriotype emo is the one with the fringe over one eye, introverted and obsessed with poetry and being generally miserable wrist-slitting whiners- but then that was the steriotype of the goth a while ago, and like all steriotypes a lot of the time it's not true.

emo used to just stand for emotional rock. Which is basically singing one minute then screaming your face out the next. But nowadays its much more, its now just become a group of people who like to dress the same way and have the same haircut. Most of them like emo music. But quite a lot of them just like to be an emo.

emo=emotional. Its a type of music. but people have turned it into a type of style, alot of kids that are emo tend to be very emotinal weather depressed or just have mood changes.
