If he's in, does Trent Dilfer get in?

Here are Namath's career stats: 50.1% completetions, 173 TD's, 220 INT, 27,663 yards 1 Super Bowl Ring

Here are Dilfer's: 55.7% completions 106 TD's, 119 INT's, 19,352 yards, and 1 Super Bowl ring.

And Dilfer can still add to those numbers.

For the record, I don't believe either guy should be in the HoF.

Bob Griese played at the same time as Namath and has similar
statistics (56.2 %, 192 TDs, 172 Ints, 25092 yds, 2 Super Bowl wins) and is in the HOF, but I don't think that anyone who saw both of them play would have said that Griese was a better quarterback.

But the worst player in the HOF? Try Lynn Swann. 9 year career. Most receptions in a season: 61. Most yards in a year: 880. Most TDs: 11.

Then look at Art Monk--crushes Swann in all categories except TDs. Top 10 in receptions & receiving yards--not in the HOF.

no he was not! look at that era back then , almost 28,000 yards was pretty good! but the clincher was his super bowl MVP performance in super bowl 3, he single handily beat a team the great Baltimore colts, the best team by far in that era, they had a record of 13 wins and only 1 loss . Joe played his heart out in that game and the colts were favored to win by odds of 6to1 . Joe threw 17 out of 28 passes for a completion , and had his head knocked off several times! and his team won 16 to 7! I agree he does not have the numbers of a Fran Tarkington. but that glorious game in that super bowl made his place in the hall! EDIT his College coach said he was the best athlete he ever saw and footnote! his knees were shot before he started playing pro ball!!!!

Its more about the stats, its about the era he played in. He helped the whole AFL be put on the map by leading the Jets to the superbowl. He was the face of the NFL for a period of time and a legend amoung jets fans..

Watch the 1969 super bowl and then tell me he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
