Northern Walking Stick insects...

dont get any exotic pet untill you have proven you are capable with a traditional pet.. the exotics are more work and more costly and are really a gimmick for people with low self esteme

some people have suggested Iguanas.. BUT these are not really good pets - alot of people keep them in cages that are WAY too small for them and these guys can get really big and mean too... even most reptile experts are suggesting they not be allowed as pets because of this

I live in Vermont as well, there are many choices for pets, however instead of what they look like or how exotic they are keep in mind what upkeep they require, daily, and vet trips. Every animals needs differ, I think it might be easier to analyze what you are willing to provide financially and time wise before getting your heart set on a creature.

i would go to your local pet store and ask questions on what exotic animals would be legal if you would have to have special permits to keep this animal at your house and also get info on a type of exotic animal that you would be interested make sure you get all info on how you would have to provide the living conditions as far as keeping it warm all the time or if it desires cooler temps

A good pet for you might be a Leopard Gecko or a Bearded Dragon if you like reptiles. Rats are a cool pet also. they are smart, their poop and pee don't stink, and they are hardly ever biters. I have two young hooded rats that are extremely friendly. I work in a pet store that also sells hairless rats. All are legal if they are captive born and most are.

Exotic pets are usually animals that if given a choice would never choose to live with or be happy living with humans.. You may want to consider this before taking on any animal that is best left in the wild.. Your local animal shelter can tell you what restrictions are in place for where you live..

I have several iguanas, and they make good pets. They eat almost anything that we do, and if you get a baby and raise it, it is a very handlable and friendly pet. When they get large, they look like ferocious mini dinosaurs.

You must have a reliable heat source, though. A freeze would kill it.

hmm i'm 11 and I LOVE parrots! try a parrot, even though theyre about $600- $700, but well worth the money! make sure to keep yours in a bird cage (my friend,(he owns a quaker parrot; go down to brooklyn and catch one, theyre not native so theyre legal to catch) told me they poo every 10 minutes.), and if you dont want to, put it in a greenhouse or something along those lines with plenty of plants.
