I recomment to everyone the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, it's my favorite series! It's not so much horror and gore as it is a post-apocalyptic type dark fantasy. I love it because Stephen King ties the world of these stories into many of his other books, and I like alternate dimension/world stories a lot. Another one I like of his is The Eyes of the Dragon, I first read it when I was 13 and that's what got me into reading Stephen King :)

If you like Eragon, you may like the Pendragon series, by DJ Machale - one of my personal favorites. Also, the Warriors series, by Erin Hunter, is very good.
If you're a girl, and if you're not I'm sorry, than I'd suggest anything by Sarah Dessen

The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk. It's a fiction book about this shipman and his WWII experience.
I also recommend anything by Steven Pinker.

My favorite historical fiction book is set during the french revolution. "The Scarlet Pimpernel" is what it is called. A must read if you like this kind of book (which it seems you do). Have fun reading it, I know I did.
