And should/how can I get him to drink more and less often?

yes it is okay for a 5 week old baby to take an hour to drink 2.5oz of formula.My fiance and I have a daughter who is 2 weeks old and she takes that long to drink her formula. If you want him to drink more i would change the nipple. When i was in the hospital they gave me a nipple that is not a straight nipple and my fiance and my daughter drinks out of it just fine and sometimes she will drink more out of the bottle with that nipple. the nipple that i would recommend is one that curves in at the top.

No two babies do the same things at the same time nor in the same manner. Is the baby healthy? Is it growing? Is it as active as it should be, given its age? Do you have any other reason to possibly be concerned? If everything's OK then stop with worry. If something's wrong, doctor time.

I would say an hour is a bit long... however the amt sounds good because most baby's eat that or less at his age...... maybe your bottle nipple (assuming your bottle feeding) needs to be more open for him maybe the next size up...

lol...i remeeber them days....feedings seemed like a decade especially in the middle of the night when you're sleepy and the baby is taking his sweet ol time...now my daughter just takes it to the head...it will get better...good luck....also no he'll stop when hes full...at that age my baby was drinking 2 ounces

what bottle are you using? you should call the E.R and speak to a nurse or call back to the hospital that you had the baby at and ask a nurse but this is defenatly a cause for concern call imeadeatly.
