I agree, I don't think gray and brown look nice together.
Black is fine for shoes and belts. Dark gray accessories look very sophisticated.
If you can, go shopping and take the pants with you. Then hold shoes, belts, shirts next to the fabric. When you find a combination that you like, take them to the dressing room for a try on. Look for deep jewel tones, and fall colors to complement the gray for shirts. Amethyst, sapphire, garnet, forest green, navy, burgundy, etc... Pick ones that you like, colors that complement you, then the pants. The color will be close to your face, so it shouldn't make you look sallow or dull.
If anyone asks, just explain to them that you are trying to find something to match your pants. Most sales clerks will understand. After all, they are in the business of helping people look good.

Silver, or try a pop of color like a red or wine. Ever watch What Not to Wear? Stacy and Clinton always show how to add a pop like that and it does look nice.
