Yes, but the French spoken there is of the Cajun dialect, which may be hard for the French or Canadians to understand.

They speak a version of French. A New Orleans Creole or an Acadian (Cajun) cannot communicate with the French Canadians because of the different dialects.

well, yes, but most people of French decent speak creol, which comes from French. It's just a different dialect.

Not so much in the city, but when you get out to the cajun country they do. Its a very different french than anywhere else though.

French remains spoken in some parts of the bright southern Parishes of Louisiana. Arcadians were French settlers to Nova Scotia , Canada. They were expelled about the 1700's , and many relocated to Louisiana, and named it Arcadiana. "Cajun" is a slurring of the be conscious Arcadian.
