After all it was CIA that armed him and financed him! Or is it a use and throw that boomaranged? Was it the same with Saddam Hussein... one time blue eyed boy of America did he also boomarang or is he still a puppet?

Why does USA have a habit of creating mess and then use it as an excuse to occupy countries?

Tell me wouldnt Afghanistan have been better and more progressive under Russian influence rather than USA backed Mujahideen removed by US armed Taliban who had to be bombed as soon as they captured power?

You must be naive to believe USA just goofs up! It plans long term destruction.

Prove me wrong that US financed and promoted fundamentalism in the Muslim world to arrest the spread of left movements fearing loss of control in the region if people became objective and conscious.

That is all in hindsight. Plus Usama funded his own training camps in Pakistan and later Africa.Training camps in Afghanistan did not happen until later. Africa is where he built the largest dam. The Mujahideen fighters were trained by the Iranians. The CIA was merely doing everything in its power to rebel the Soviet threat from Saudi Arabia.(we did not give a rats about Afghanistan).
If you look at photographs of the time, you we see very little American Arms used by the Mujahideen. You even see them using old turn of the century British Arms. The CIA mainly provided intelligence to the freedom fighters.

So you must ask yourself why the U.S. involved themselves? We know that the Soviet Unions invasion of Afghanistan was to springboard other invasions within the middle east. They tried this route because they failed in Iran because of help to the Shah from the United States. The Soviets needed oil for the war machine during the cold war, since they lacked the technology to drill their own domestic supply.
So if Russia was allowed to invade and take over Afghanistan then this would have destabilized the region. Afghanistan might have been better off, but the whole region would have not.

I have seen many questions like this type before. Yeah in hindsight this problem is true, but you need to look at the reasons why at the time of the event. We need not to judge these past events on what has transpired decades later.

Can you honestly say at the time you would have done different? We feared an Islamic Fundamentalist State (Iran) and when Saddam went to war with this state we backed him. There were questions about him at the time; but he wasn't exactly taking hostages and overrunning our embassy was he?

Russia invaded Afghanistan. America was (is) dependent on oil from the region and feared Russian expansion beyond Afghanstan and the people there fought tooth and nail to kick Russia out. We decided to help those people, Osama decided to help those people, and Russia was evicted from Afghanistan. Was that wrong? Would you have done differently at the time; or would you have preferred waiting for Russia to move further south and work to control the oil of the world?

I am completely convinced that he is being kept hidden by the CIA. Also, keep in mind that Rumsfeld now controls the CIA ever since the resignation of George Tenent.

I always suspected this, but was convinced when I did some research on a story I only heard ONCE then it was quickly hushed... the Taliban offerred to hand B.Laden over on Sept 18 & 19th, 2001 just before Bush invaded Afghanistan.

Bush told them NO... that told me that Bush did not want B.Laden. Think about it. Even to this day, while there is the war on terror, Bush has legal authority to ignore any law based on national security (war time president authority). If he had accepted B.Laden there would have been no war in Iraq and a very small war on terror.... minimizing his authority.

There is no doubt that Osama and Saddam were in co hoots with the United states. You said it yourself, the CIA funded Osama, as well as Saddam. Then when they are ripe for the picking the US turns their back on them and suddenly they become the enemy.That's just the way the leaders of the US work, they want to make their friends overseas and stab them in the back to make themselves look better. I'm not so sure if Afghanistan would be better off under Communist rule, they should govern themselves. We're just looking at who we can profit from. Iraq has the oil, we want it, the politicians here are willing to kill for it and that's what is going on right now.

I have read many CIA literature and FBI and Special Operation books. America plays no games. The people involved are highly intelligent. Everything is done for a reason. I hope I have not fail victim to Military propaganda and Osama really is considered our enemy. It would not surprise me in the least if everything regarding the past 5 years were false. Yes its a well known U.S. policy "Use em then lose em" and it explains why the whole world hates the U.S.Your government has screwed everyone it has had dealings with since the beginning of your existence, starting with France way back when they helped you defeat the British and allowed you to become a country.What did your government do?
