What is this going to mean for the future of international test cricket?

Do you think the Pakistani Team are going to go home in protest?

I'm really sad this has happened. We don't need this sort of thing in Cricket, causing friction and bad feeling between international sides. I only hope Darrel Hair had really really good evidence for making that accusation because otherwise he has done a lot of damage! Isn't he the same umpire who accused Murali about his action a few years ago??? Troublemaker?

Its the fans who are going to lose out in all this.

England should refuse to play against these cheats for good.they have been done for ball tampering before.it makes my blood boil.people pay a fortune to be entertained and they get ripped with cheating.Pakistan should be banned from international cricket for a year or 2 to teach them a lesson.cricket is my passion and these cheats are ruining a fantastic sport.

The umpires (rightly or wrongly) enforced the rules according to the laws of cricket. Any effort to continue play tomorrow will have serious repercussions, and will mean that any team, when they feel hard done by, will just stay in the dressing room. Darryl Hair is a very rough and ready character but one can;t help feeling Dickie Bird (easily the greatest umpire ever) might have handled things in a not dissimilar way - if Pakistant won't come out and resume the game, they lose - then sort out the implications later.
He's not really a trouble maker - Murali's action is, and always has been, suspect - but mainly due to a physical deformity which prevents him fully extending his arm. And why is the award of 5 runs to England a bigger deal than giving Strauss lbw out to a ball that was missing the stumps and pitching outside the line??? I;d sooner have the five runs knocked off and Strauss back in...

As I understand (information from Sky News and Sky Sports News), the Pakistani team refused to come out at the restart (following an early tea on Day 4, given to England due to light) as a protest against the awarding of five penalty runs to England. The umpires and England came out and after a few moments, the umpires removed the bails. This signifies the end of play for the day. What remains to be seen is whether play will resume at 10.30am tomorrow (on Day 5).

It has just been announced that the Test has been forfeited to England and that there will be no play tomorrow

True.... This is an absolute outrage. Darrel Hair has indeed been biased about South Asian cricket teams....Srilanka, India, Pakistan. He was the one who accused Murli wrongly, and the Rawalpindi Express...Shoaib Akhtar.

The Pakistan Team has been protesting fiercely in front of the ICC but all the while also getting ready for the next 5 games coming up. If you look up Hair's bio...its evident the grudge he holds against many players and teams..especially, Srilanka & Pakistan..
I hope it will end up in favor of the Pakistani Team. No one can be so thick-minded as Hair or the people at ICC. if they are...then its really disappointing and stupid!

this is 4 all those idiots who r criticizing the pak team n who didnt watch the match.darrel hair had absolutley no proof that the pak team had tampered with the ball. inzamam did the absolutley right thing.n when the umpires came out of their dressing room inzi was ready 2 come out.he just wanted 2 register a protest so he stayed in a few min.the pak team felt really insulted n they must have felt even more embarrased when they came out after their protest n the umpires failed 2 show up.why would the pakis want 2 cheat when they were bout 20 points ahead of england
the paki team was treated very very unfairly and darrel hair is the biggest LOSER i have ever heard of.darrel hair also bought out a new ball n awarded 5 penalty points 2 england without warning the captain of the pakistan cricket team inzamam-ul-haq

i don't think the umpires would have done what they did without 100% evidence. if inzamam didn't like it, why didn't he 'protest' at the time?

you could say hair is a troublemaker but you could also say he stands for what he believes in - i think murali chucks it.

anyway, the pakistan team should go home, but not in protest...they should be sent home and fined to make up for the lost revenue the ecb will incur.

i think it should be remembered that the england players did not protest - it was all instigated by the umpires. the umpires should be backed by the icc but sadly, i don't think they will be as before.

maybe england/south africa/west indies/australia/new zealand/zimbabwe wouldn't get away with it but, the rest always seem to.

Blimey - the last couple of answerers are complete nutters. And factually incorrect. The umpire does NOT have to point out the fielder who tampered with the ball. The decision is whether "In the opinion of the umpire that the ball has been tampered with". And I also believe that he is NOT duty bound to explain any decision to the players, although, as a some-time umpire myself, it is usually a sensible course of action to do so.

the fans are really the ones who lost out in all of this. I think if there really was ball tampering, (after all england was on a streak), the umpires should have handled things a bit differently. from what i heard, they didn't inform pakistan of the suspicion until they brought the new balls for the batsmen to pick. also, pakistan made it bad for themselves by not coming out, they most likely have forfeited the match. the umpires did the right thing there after. they came out twice, once without any players, then with the english batsmen. they gave pakistan enough time to come out, so they did right by not coming out when pakistan came on the field. in my opinion, i think pakistan really did tamper with the ball but that's just my opinion, it could be true or not. that's yet to be seen. almost always, anytime a controversy is brewing you would find an asian country in the middle of things. kinda tells something about the way things are done there. that's just me.

26 (or 29)sky sports cameras could't detect anything, what bloody X rays detected the tempering that never occured?
This was a disaster waiting to happen due to tolerance of racialism by ICC,when Asian teams have so many problems with this Darrel dude why don't they play them in whites only?
Why do they keep imposing these biased umpires on Asian teams, pakistan team has qutie a history with this guy..

and yes its not the first time Pakistan has been accused of ball tempering ,,and it won't be the first time for england either if they are reported again(they have a history)

And what was the hurry of calling off the match?there have been walkouts in history, like the mike getting-shakoor rana insident in faislabad in the 80s,no one acted like a rogue cop,i think there is something fishy about the way he acted,it almost looked planned..
Reverse swing is an art and its no cheating to shine on the ball...
If you were call cheaters and theieves i am sure most of you would protest by walking off,and inzimam was actually coming out when umpires awarded the match to english team...

pakistani captain has demanded the ball to be shown to media..

Pakistan and england share a healthy rivalry..this incident however is very fishy, its intresting to mention betting odds on england winning when umpire changed the ball or at some stage were 250-1(someone on the net mentioned)..
why was Andrew straus and kevin peterson on the phone..
No wonders Ian botham has said this would bring disaster for the english cricket..wait till the facts come out..

Pakistan is a friendly country..especially with good terms with england,so for that reason i think One day series would continue..

however tomorrow situation would be clear (the way ICC acts)
I woudl say again it was a disaster waiting to happen and there shoudl be radical changes in umpriting standards...

In defence of englad (i am a pakistani by the way)

Dickie bird(one of the msot respected umpires of all times)
Ian botham
David gawar(sorry if i spelled his last name wrong, does' chaneg the fact that he was ag reat player)
Nasser Hussien
David Loyad ofcourse
&Michael atherton have backed Pakistan in very "Strong"words and have condemned the incident..(very rightly so)
Ian botham actually went to the extent of saying this would be a disaster for english cricket..

yes the fans Will!!! all those who had tickets for tomorrows play will and should get their money back, and the Pakistan Cricket Board to pay up...id think the rest of the tour is in jeopardy from this..but i also agree that Darell hair needs to also be investigated by the ICC for his handling of this..hard to blame the other Umpire as Mr hair was senior he was following his lead!!! but i guess the ruckus will roll on and on!!!
