A baby is described as having colic if her or she has episodes of uncontrollable, extended crying over three hours a day and at least three days a week. Every baby cries, but if your baby is otherwise healthy and well fed, then he or she may have colic. With an infant’s digestive system still developing up to the age of three months some say that colic comes from an immature digestive system that is having spasms. The condition typically appears within the first three weeks and almost disappears, before the baby is three to four months old. Hope i've helped!

Colic is just a general term for unexplained fussiness in a baby who is less than 3 or 4 months old. Most people associate the term "colic" with gassiness, but that's not the case...generally, a "coliky baby" is just a baby who is fussy all or most of the time and no one can figure out why. Some babies hate their diaper being even just a little wet and some don't like the formula they are on (and may be lactose intolerant) or any number of reasons...if you want to know more, check out "What to Expect the First Year" there's a small section in it devoted to colic (but it may be in the last section of "What to Expect When Expecting"..check them at your library because I remember reading it, just not which book it was in)

My son had a 3 month colic. It causes the baby to cry constantly. In my experience my son had pain in his stomach like gas pains. He wasn't adjusting to the formula. Try not to change back and forth what you're feeding him. I think the way the baby digests food has a lot to do with colic.

Does she ever throw up any milk ? If so then she might possibly have acid reflux.. and that coulod be the pain she is in... my youngest had both acid reflux, colic, milk allergies (went thru 5 formulas) and cut ehr first tooth at 3 months so it was rather hard for ehr in the beginning... she would scream all day and all night.. we hardly had time to sleep..
I have included a few links for you to check out about colic, acid reflux and even a message board to read or ask about it... good luck

I was always told it's a nervous baby brought on by a nervous mom. Which is why most first newborns of the mom is colicky. I'm not too sure of this old wives tale though. My first was not colicky but my second was. I wasn't nervous about caring for my newborn when my first was born because I was the oldest in my family, and experienced, since I cared for my siblings. But, when my second came along only 15 months later, I found the jealousy from the oldest demanding my undivided attention made me nervous. So maybe there is some logic to this old wives tale after all.

my daughter had it. what a nightmare!! the doctor told us there was no explanation for it. just be grateful it only lasts a few months ( i know that seems like forever, right now!!).
our daughter cried alot at night. part of the problem, looking back, i think was us. i think she was tired, but we didn't have the best schedule for her. also, keep feeding her, she might be hungry! also, the more she gets to eat before bed, the longer she should sleep. good luck!!
