I am the latter and have been for a long time. What is YOUR story?

As a help here are some things to think about (thank you Brain Tracy):

Optimists: control their reactions and responses, isolate an Incident (don't take everything personally), see setbacks as temporary events, don't take failure personally, remain calm and objective, view a negative situation as a single event not connected to other potential events & caused largely by external factors over which (one) can have little control.

Pessimists: sees negative events as permanent, as part of life and destiny, sees incidents as pervasive (they are indications of a problem or shortcoming that pervades every area of life), has a tendency to take EVERYTHING personally. can be at MOST times angry, upset, or distracted

I am totally a Pessimist.

everything in the description for pessimist is me except for seeing negative events as permanent because i dont think every thing bad that happens to me is gonna last forever i know that things will get better eventually.

that was probably the most optimistic thing i have ever said and that is actually quite sad.

It is very interesting in my case, since I am a little bit of both. I never lean one side or the other comprehensively. Here is why. On the pessimist side, I do normally take things personally. Every time some one makes a sour remark or a stupid joke, I sometimes get pretty frustrated at them, and it really annoys me. On the other hand, I usually see these times of frustration as isolated events, because I am not the brunt of jokes and stuff normally. I do not see that negative events are going to last forever, since I have a pretty good life. I am usually calm, and usually objective as well. Since everything that pisses me off is due to the insulting of other people, I acknowledge that I have little control of what other people say or think about me, so I dont take it too badly. I am strong in my beliefs, such as my faith in God and what I believe over other issues, and won't be easily persuaded by people who try to speak crap of them. Overall, I would say I lean slightly more to the optimist side. We are all human, however, and will never be completely optimist or pessimist.

Well after reading your definitions I would say I fall into more the optimist category even though I've always thought of myself as pessimistic. I try to see the good things in life but are often sorely disappointed so I have learned not to get my hopes up too much. So I guess I'm a blend of the two.

Eternal optimist here!

I was told once by a friend that I'm so optimistic, that instead of seeing a silver lining in the dark cloud, I can barely see the cloud because the silver linings are so dominant to me!

Yes, I drive people nuts with my optimism, but, shhh!....they're becoming more optimistic the more time they spend with me....shhh! It's a secret!

Have a beautiful one!

I'm an optimist even when the cards are stacked against me. It is better going into a situation with hope and positives thoughts on your side than to doom yourself even before you get started.

I am with the first answerer. :-) Pessimism is not all what it is cracked up to be, dearie. :-) Pessimism brought me a long way in life, and it works for me.

For you, being an optimist, you cannot understand, and that is cool. I cannot understand how it is being an optimist.

Different strokes for different folks, dearie. :-) Don't judge, love.
