I watch that show faithfully. I guess it's because Israel didn't CLEARLY win? I agree with you that Lebanon is the big loser. I also share your perception that it seems like that kind of talk seems to exacerbate tensions. Or like the news media will say that we are on edge because of terrorism. My blood pressure is still the same. I didn't go out and buy duct tape when they would give terrorism alerts.
I get you but I don't really have a good answer about how or why we highlight certain things. Maybe we're bored without soaring rhetoric.

Objectively looking at strategic importance of the conflict you can come to these conclusions:
1) Isreal did not find nor free the kidnapped soldiers. Now they are going to the negotiation table.
2) Isreal did not crush Hezbollah nor destroy it despite having superior numbers, equipment, and training.
3) Hezbollah become even more popular in Lebanon.
Just from those 3 observations one can see that Israel failed in its objectives. And with Hezbollah standing up to Israel and forcing Israel to the table, Hezbollah's objectives WERE met.
I doubt the media would gain anything from producing another conflict...nor would just saying that Hezbollah "won" cause another conflict.
I do agree that Lebanon was the big loser.

Hezbollah did gain a large victory against Israel. Hezbollah went into Israel and killed/kidnapped Israeli soldiers which started this current conflict. Israel retaliated and attempted to destroy Hezbollah. Hezbollah survived long enough for world opinion to force Israel to sign a cease fire. Hezbollah still exists, they are still getting weapons from Iran/Syria, are even more determined and they have yet to return the kidnapped soldiers. In a year or so the exact same thing will happen again, and each time this happens Israel will lose its footing in international opinion and appear weak to the extremist muslim regimes. Israel cannot afford to appear weak.

The media gets blamed for a lot of things and this is one that should be blamed on the viewer. The media has never reported that Hezbollah has one. They have reported though that Hezbollah has claimed to won the war. There is a big difference.
Sadly the media can report the news, but it still has to be interpreted by the viewer and sometimes, like in your situation, the interpretation of what they reported is incorrect.

EXACTLY! Nobody won! There was nothing to be gained from this except for widespread hatred and murder.
I guess the media feels that unless Hezbollah are completely eradicated, then Israel will always be 'losing' to them.

Venezuela
Chavez slams Israel
President Hugo Chavez said the country is carrying out a nationwide fundraising drive to raise money for rebuilding Lebanon and for the Palestinian people. Chavez called the Lebanese and Palestinians "heroic people" and reiterated his criticisms of Israel over its military offensive in Lebanon. "I ask everyone in the country to give what we can for this fundraising campaign for the reconstruction of Lebanon -- destroyed by the genocidal and fascist hand of Israel, and its masters, the US empire," Chavez said. The Venezuelan president said on Aug. 3 that he was withdrawing his country's top diplomat to Israel to protest its attacks in Lebanon and its actions toward the Palestinians.

The goal of terrorist organizations is to exploit you through world views and the media. So, it seems like they got stronger through this because I've seen my fair share of idiots who have been sympathetic to Hezbollah.
Someone said conflicts have become more psychological and political. Yes and no. By the very goal of a terrorist organization those two attributes will be pushed to the forefront, though. I find it appalling that in the U.S. the parties are debating over this....makes me want to puke.

In case nobody has noticed , there has been a major shift in the art of war. It has become more political and psychological. The winner under the new definition can be weaker, less effective and still "win".
