Ahh, because you are using Dial-up.
If you had High-speed, it would probably be done in less than 10 minutes.
But after re-booting, there are probably MORE updates to download.

So that by the time it's downloaded it will be out of date and you'll have to get the next update.
Seriously though, something is wrong somewhere. Even a large download and a slow internet connection shouldn't take that long.
If your hard-drive is nearly full then I'd be tempted to cancel the current download, clear some space on your hard-drive by deleting temp files, temp internet files etc, possibly consider defragmenting the hard-drive. These will create more space which should make things work faster.
Even if you have plenty of hard-drive space, cancel the current download, and start again. A new connection should work quicker, sometimes you can get hooked up with a very slow connection.
Cancel the current download, restart your computer, run your anti-vurus, adware and spyware programs then try again.

You have a serious problem. Windows updates seldom run more than fifteen minutes. Even if you have a slow dial up, you should check into it.

Well first stop worring about it but you probably have dialup
1. connect to your internet
2. shut off your monitor
3. go shopping
4. 1hr later go back and restart your computer
5. If that dosn't work e-mail me
oh and defraging your computer just organizes the files not clear the space

Do you have a fast internet connection that remains up consistently?
If you have DSL or something slower, there is your problem.
