i use tracfone. i've had one for almost 3 yrs and it's been an awesome phone and tracfone customer service are awesome. the cost of phones range anywhere from $20 to $130 and you can get flip phones, flip speaker phones, or camera phones but the camera phone is not a flip phone. you can activate the phone on line and get free minutes, plus you get ten free minutes just for purchasing the phone that will activate when you activate your phone whether on line or not. you can monitor when you need more minutes on your phone and the minute cards are really cheap. 60 minutes $18, 120 minutes $28, 400 minutes $78. with tracfone you need a new minute approximately every 60 days unless you get the one year service plans which range from $99 to $140. the $99 year plan gives you service all year long so if you can't afford a minute card right off you don't have to worry as you have the service for a full year. the $140 year plan allows the same one year service but has a bonus, every time you purchase a minute card during that one year it'll double your minutes for every card. that's well worth the money i think. if you do get a tracfone, get a motorola not a nokia. nokia's seem to have more problems and motorola has a better track record in working better. with tracfone, there are no roaming no matter where you call. one minute of use means one minute of use, no matter where calling to. good luck in your decision making.

no there are no pay as you go national plans without any roaming charges, pay as you go is for people with bad credit or that don't want a contract. It helps if you have a kid and don't want them going over their minutes and racking up a bunch of huge charges.

I have a Tracfone, Virgin Mobile and Cingular...I use them for different purposes, with Cingular U don't get got coverage in the back-road, so I call an my cheap Tracfone...at my very long conversation I use Cingular in the city...but go to www.cellguru.com he gave me 100 for free with Tracfone, but VM has the sexiest phones....
T-Mobil and Cingular use GSM
Sprint and Verizon, Tracfone use CDMA
this is the reason for different coverage areas in the USA
the easiest to deal with is Virgin Mobil and Cingular, there websites are easy and user friendly...I got auto top-off

I would highly recommend tracfone if you purchase the 1yr double minute card option. But really you need to check out these two websites to see who has better coverage in your area. http://www.cellreception.com and http://www.deadcellzones.com if your wanting tracfone go to the following http://www.tracfone.com Happy Hunting

cingular GO phones are the best ones out there, in my opinion. they have cool phones, and they're provided by cingular so they have a great calling range. Plus, they're not too expensive.
