...called the "airgap". Inside the sink cabinet >> The hose from top of garbarge disposal TO the airgap is clogged with food. Dishwasher drains to the airgap and down to the disposal. Whenever you use the D/W run the disposal. Remove the rubber hose from Disposal up to the airgap and unclog the food in it. Good luck !!! This is normal and happens to more people than one might think.

I know thingie's not a technical term for some testosterone humans out there but, yes it's a thingy. And that is the release valve that keeps the water pressure from the dishwasher from blowing through the pipes.
You may have a bit of a clog going on in your kitchen plumbing and may need to have a knowledgeable person come and check out the situation.

The dishwasher has to drain the water it used to wash so it can refill and rinse with fresh water. Ours will drain into the disposal but sometimes if there's stuff in there it will start to backflow into the sink a little until it's finished draining. It's just the way they were designed; there's a reason they're installed right next to the sink!

Several things to check. Make sure the water lines under the sink are not kinked. Check to see if you are getting hot water to the faucet. Take out the hot water faucet stem and make sure the water way is clean and the seal or washer did not fall into seat of stem

That's a tube connected to the dishwasher. The dishwasher will fill up with hot water and then it will empty said water to fill up with new water which will be cleaner. The pipe tube thing is letting all the dirty water (which essentially rinses the plates etc.) out so soap and clean water can come in.

I agree with Detra_ooh. You have food clogging the drain from the disposal and now the water is backing up into the air gap.

It's the drain. There is no drain right underneath the dishwasher, so, the water has to go somewhere, and so, into the sink is the best place.

Your discharge hose . When the dishwasher rinses it pumps the dirty water into your sink drain . It's a discharge hose .

you just need to tighten it up, and if that doesn't work, shut off your water main, remove it, take it to the hardware store, get a replacement. follow directions carefully and that's that
