That sounds kind of dangerous- your wires must be all jacked up.... Is it blowing smoke rings?

Possibly a short in the wires, maybe a frayed wire.
Either way it's not good and will likely cause an electrical fire in the wall.
Don't use the light switch, keep it turned off and have an electrician come out a.s.a.p.

Probably because or more of the wires going to the switch is loose where the terminal and wire meet causing a high resistance connection which will cause heating and a possible fire.

You have a short-circuit in the wiring. The heat generated by the shorted wires is melting the insulation causing it to smoke. I suggest you call an electrician.

Turn off the breaker for that switch and call an electrician ASAP. Don't hesitate or you may lose your house.

The answer to this question cold be YUCKY as mice often find these places warm and cosy!!! Otherwise your switch has burnt contacts and will need to be replaced VERY soon

Could be very serious.... touch the surrounding wall to feel for heat. I would shut off the breaer til it gets looked at.

Turn off power that feeds that area, and call an electrician, now! or, maintenance person if an apt..
this is no joke, this is serious..

it might be smoking because it may have gotten some water in side or either some type of liquid!!!!
