I believe that here in America, we have lost our souls so all value is placed on physical beauty. You don't have to be skinny to fit in, but it sure does help. The media has just brainwashed us into hating ourselves if we don't look like the faces we see on the cover of cosmpolitian. It's sad when you hear little six year old girls concerned about their weight, asking "do I look fat in this"? What kind of life is this for women, to be constantly yearning for something we aren't, and don't really want to be. I, personally, have had a good life and many good friends, without wearing a size zero. Women who place all their value on pants size will eventually find themselves alone, unhappy, and very very hungry! Just be happy with yourself the way you are, and don't let anyone tell you any different. If women around the country united and refused to be molded into a sickening stereotype, we would see change. Instead, the girls just easily accept that this is normal and try their damndest to become it. Resist the brainwashing and be happy the way you are! :)

Well society teaches us that BOTH guys and girls need to be skinny to fit in. Basically, they dont have to be skinny, but not fat either, if you know what I mean. Through advertisments, TV, etc, we are taught the defination of attractive, and unfortunately it puts a lot of pressure on young people to be skinny through unheathly means. HOWEVER I do not entirely disagree with the outcome, just the way people get skinny, or moderate. People that are over wieghts have tons of health issues ranging from blood pressure, to joint issues. Very few people are heavy because of medical conditions, that is just an easy crutch to lean on. Long and short of my answer, don't get "skinny" by starving and other unhealthy ways just to fit int, but get out and be active and healthy and let your weight stay where it may.

Girls don't have to be skinny to fit in. That is a snobby, no character high school girl's thing. Just be healthy and fit. If girls had to be skinny to fit in then most girls would not fit in.

Being thin shows the world you are a dynamic individual with purpose and drive, rather than a lazy, directionless, lay-about, slob who's depressed and boring. Give up your hurt, anger, and guilt through honesty with yourself, openness with others, and forgiveness of yourself and others who've hurt you, and then find your passion in life and follow it. There will be little time left for sitting around eating, and more for enjoying the pleasures of great effort and goals attained. Forget about fitting in, there's a whole world of interesting people out there.

They don't. If you're worried about being skinny so you can fit in, whatever you're trying to fit in with isn't worth the trouble. Be yourself and you'll find where you're supposed to be.

Because that's what the media says. The media considers non-anorexics "fat girls"-which is totally untrue. I really don't like reading too many teen magazines anymore, they're all about anorexic girls wearing the "hottest" style of clothes and I'd rather find my own style instead of depending on a fashion magazine to tell me how I should dress and who I am. The people who make the fashion magazines don't know me, so they wouldn't know what I like.

Fat girls, skinny girls, pretty girls, average girls. They all have hearts and feelings. There are people in this world that are open minded and accept other people for what they are.

Silly girls who believe all the hype from the media, fashion magazines and their silly peers think looking like a stick insect cool. If they're dieting and not eating the right food, by the time they're in their 30's they'll have all sorts of ailments....

because girls are stupid and compare themselves to celebrities which is unrealistic and stupid.
americans are obsessed with their weight. its disgusting.because there are either fat or skinny people but if you look at countries like Japan, where everyone is about the same, because they have a healthier lifestyle.
I swear is food wasnt such an issue and people actually ate healthy, there wouldnt be this problem.
