All oil filters are removed the same way - counterclockwise, just like any fastener. The oil filter was probably over tightened at the last oil change. A special type of strap wrench will remove any oil filter. As you turn it, it tightens in on the filter. You might be able to get one at an auto parts dealer. This is what it looks like. Don't waste your money on any other type -

Always put a small film of oil on the oil filter (rubber) gasket. Clean the gasket sealing surface on the crankcase. Most filters are tightened to 3/4 to a full turn after the gasket contacts the sealing surface.

remember- righty tighty, lefty loosy. Removing a filter is always counter clockwise. Only a few components are reverse such as the drive sproket on your Evo motor. Sounds like somebody overtightend the filter. Go to your autoparts store and check out the different types of filter wrenchs they carry. There should be something that can help you.

Get an old leather belt, wrap it tight and twist.
