I have a husband and wife working for me, their names are Jack and Jill. My problem is I can't decide wether to lay Jill or Jack off! They're both good employees !

In a restaurant I worked in, one member of a family was laid off and the entire family quit. They were 80% of the cooking staff. Be prepared to find a replacement for both if they take it badly, or you can retool the joke and try again.
