A pedophile is an older person (generally a man) who "goes after" much younger people (generally girls) for sex. We're not talking about a 25 year old man going after a 20 year old girl either. Generally it's when the man is much older and lusts after girls who aren't even legal yet...say around 12-16 years old.

If you mean pedophile, that is a person who sexually preys on children. A person who engages in pedophilia is sexually attracted to children who are pre-pubescent or pubescent. The attraction is primarily or exclusively geared toward children and is a lifelong attraction. There are those who believe that pedophilia should be a category of sexual orientation (such as hetero- and homo- sexuality) because of the fact that it is lifelong attraction and not something that one "grows out of".
As defined in the Cambridge dictionary: "a person, especially a man, who is sexually interested in children".

Pedophile, comes from two Greek words. Pedo = child or children; Phile = to love.
Literally, it means one who loves children. However, we use it to describe one who loves children a little too much and sexually molests them.

In answer to your question it is anyone over 18 who has sex with, or has anykind of sexual contact with someone under 16. This includes having pictures of minors of sexual context.

I think you mean, Paedophile - this word is used to describe an adult who is sexually attracted to children, they are a paedophile weather they ever touch a child or not. They then become a pervert if they actually act on their sick fantasies.
