My husband and I were both born in Wales, we then moved to England, however after holidaying in Scotalnd we knew we wanted to live there. We finally moved to Scotland in July 2003. Not all parts of The UK are beautiful, but Scotland, especially the NW is unbelievable. We firstly moved to Edinburgh which we liked very much, it is such a vibrant small city with such a huge variety of things to see and do. In April 2004 we moved to a tiny place called Badcall Inchard in Sutherland, situated on the banks of Loch Inchard, it's right at the NW of Scotland near Cape Wrath. Sutherland is half the size of Belgium with 13,000 population, it is Europe's last wilderness. All the roads are single track with passing places. It was very remote, the nearest supermarket was 110 miles away in Inverness, we had a small general store near us where you could buy most things, although they were very expensive. Living there was like being in another world, there were just 10 properties where we lived, no-one ever locked their doors or shut their curtains, the postman would just walk straight in your house with your mail. We rented a crofters cottage which overlooked Loch Inchard and 3 magnificent mountains, Arkle, Foinaven and Ben Hope. The sheep roamed freely along the road and in our garden ! The views were second to none, the ONLY reason we moved was due to lack of employment. There were no street lights , so at night the sky was pitch black, we have never seen so many stars, The Northern Lights were often visible from there. The sandy beaches were beautiful white sand and the sea water was a pure turquoise. In February 2005 we moved to Aberdeen ( for work ). Aberdeen is the most unattractive city we have ever been in, everything is grey, including the people, who are very unfriendly. There isn't one nice thing about the place and we are saving really hard to move further west. Drugs and alcohol are a huge problem here, along with all the crimes that go with that. Inverness is nice and our very favourite place is Loch Ness, it's the most amazing place ever.
We don't have any family near to us and we have never left Scotland since we moved here. I am a full time wife, my husband is the breadwinner.
We have travelled all over Ireland, Northern and The Republic, we had many good times there and it is quite scenic but doesn't compare in any way to Scotalnd.

I am from Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland.
We are on the coast but are within easy driving distance of Mountains, Castles, Parks, Great Shops, Good Nightlife, Low crime rate, only 1% unemployment & most importantly the friendliest native you are ever likely to meet.
I have family living all over Scotland but because it is not a huge country everyone is within a days drive.
I work in Office Administration.
We do have some fairly strange accents in this neck of the woods. Aberdeen is fairly cosmopolitan, with Polish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish etc moving into the area for work. We are also the Oil capital of Europe with offices for all the large Oil companies being based here.

I retired and returned to live in England eighteen months ago after living in various African countries for over 40 years. I live in Cambridgeshire and I came here because my Mother and two of my daughters live here and a third daughter lives only a couple of hours drive away in Kingston, Surrey. The part of Cambridgeshire I live in is beautiful as it is near the Fens so is always green and has lots of bird life. England is an OK country to live in, but miss the hot African sun as English weather can be a bit unpredictable.
Do give us a visit, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much there is to do and see in such a small country compared to the USA.

I prefer the UK to America (my choice!)
I live in the suburbs of Halifax on the foothills of the Pennines (the backbone of England)
Yorkshire is my favourite county - although I was born in the Cheshire plain (remember the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland - by Lewis Carroll)
I am a young 63, a retired financial director who worked for a group based in Virginia (also beautiful)
I have three sons, one nearby and the other two within an hours drive. Tomorrow our third grandchild is due to arrive by cesarean. Wish us luck!
What a thoughtful question. Thank you!

I live in England not too far from Heathrow Airport in part of the 'green belt' around London.
My parents came from Southern Ireland but my immediate family were all born in London. My brother and sister now live in Birmingham (about 120 miles away). I am married but we have no children. My husband's sister lives in Rhode Island with her husband and their two children currently live around Boston, Mass.
I work for the health service in a large hospital in West London.
I think that answered all your questions.
Parts of the UK are indeed very pretty, but as with any country there are less attractive places too. Hope you do pay us a visit one day to see it for yourself.

I'm in the UK...Skelmanthorpe in West Yorkshire...it's semi rural as we are not too far from some major towns. My brother lives around 25 miles away and I have a cousin around thirty miles away. Her father lives around 70 miles away. The rest of my family live further away. I am a housewife and I'm most definitely over 45!
