As young as you want. Infants have a natural ability to swim, but i'm not saying let your baby go at it alone :) Alot of babies LOVE water and the sensation of being in it.

Regular pools usually allow kids from 4 mo, it's good to take them during special assigned hours for infant swim (so nobody splashes or jumps right next to your baby), most of park districts have programs. And then there's special swimming lessons for babies as young as newborn, those are held in separate pools, because the water has to be treated differently and different temerature - you can look them up on the internet or ask in the hospital where you delivered. But there's not many of those.

You can take your infant into the pool the day she is born.

Havent you ever heard of births in a pool?

For example, if you were to give birth in a pool, your baby would be able to swim. Thats why so many mothers have their children in water. It wont hurt the baby. When they come out of the womb they wont automatically breathe in air. Inside of you they are surrounded by liquids. Giving birth into a pool is a smoother transition.

Your baby is a natural swimmer, it swims in the womb. So, as long as you hold on to her and watch her, you can take her into the water whenever you want.

In canada you can put your child in water babies at the age of 8 months. It is a great way to bond with your child. Just make sure that you have a instructer you like and trust, all the ones you get though the swimming pool should be certified to teach babies.

We take our 1-year old daughter to swim lessons (the youngest they take is 6 months there). We have a pool at our house, and just tried to ease her into it as much as she would tolerate at just a few months old. Eventually she didn't mind being in it at all by about 10 months.

I have seen people in pools with babies as young as a few weeks. The water was warm and the sun was setting. It is recommended that you don't put sunscreen on your baby till 5-6 months. I asked my midwife why once and she said that sunscreen has so many chemicals and skin absorbs more than we think and there is no data that shows what those chemicals can do to a baby.

I think about six months, really, but I don't think there is a minimum age to take a baby swimming. Of course you have to be with your baby, but that is a given.

As long as she has a life jacket on, and you are holding her, I'd say 6 months. Many places offer swimming "lessons" to parents & children who are under a year old now.

I took my daughter in the pool when she was about 8 months but some people do it alot earlier. It won't hurt. Just whenever you feel ok about it.
