Hi i ordered a international edition of my biology book. Its the same edition and same author as the book i need, except its softcover and international ed. But i checked the isbn number of the required textbook for my class, and it was not the same. Do i have the wrong book, or is the isbn number supposed to be different? Is there any differences in text btw the two books?

Check to be sure by checking out the pages in someone else's book on the first day but generally international editions are the EXACT SAME as the other books, except they are paperback and the ISBNs won't match. International editions aren't supposed to be bought or sold in the US but it still happens and they're usually much cheaper.

An ISBN number is edition specific. Though different editions may have identical content. The only way to know is to compare the content of your international edition with the US edition.

That's probably not the right book. Usually if the ISBN number is different than what you were the given the book has something different about it like it could be teacher's edition or a newer or later edition than what your teacher is using.

Two different editions of a book will have two different ISBN's.

check when the semester starts with someone elses book and see how they match up. usually the main difference between editions is in the problems and questions in the chapters
