As a person who has spent a number of years in the third world, I've seen many strange things the modern world would probably dismiss as nonsense. Witchcraft, Black magic and voodoo practicioners. Seriously, these things are real and when I tell my friends of these things ( here in the us) most of them just laugh. I am convinced of the authenticity of these things. I've even seen a spirit(Demon?)called into someone and took possesion of them. I told my wife of these things, but I don't think she really believes me! . I respect these people and their culture or religion (whichever) and it is not to be taken lightly. I am not a religious fanatic or a supersticious person but seeing is believing right? What do you think? Do you think it is all a load of nonsense or do you think such things exists? I tell people there are things the modern world don't see or refuse to see! There are many strange things that exists in this world!

Unfortunately, you are likely to find little success in convincing people that these things are real; they feel threatened by what they can't understand and simply deny it exists. People who have been out in the real world, though, know better. So please don't expect to convince anybody. Unless you decide to practice such things yourself; then, if you get to be good enough at it, you can show them.

BTW, I really don't like the term "black magic". So far as I can see, there is no moral dimension to magick, it is merely a tool. Like any tool it can be misused. An analogy: A hammer is a very useful tool. It can be used to hammer a nail into a board. It can also be used to crush your spouse's skull. The latter option is frowned on in polite society. Yet we don't distinguish between "white hammering" and "black hammering". Magick, like hammering, is gray. Whether what is done is right or wrong depends on how the tool is used, not on the tool itself. More to the point, it depends on the purpose of the user.

It is also true, though, that the most powerful magickal traditions include warnings that the tool cannot be used for evil--not that it should not be used, that goes without saying, but that it cannot be used. With the very powerful magickal systems, if one tries to use it for evil, it will not work. It is even likely to backfire on the practitioner. I'm not sure how much of this is true and how much results from teachers trying to frighten their students into behaving themselves.

But then, it really doesn't matter, does it? The wisest course is to avoid doing harm to others; I have found that it is also the most satisfying policy. It feels good to help other people when one can; it feels terrible to hurt another person, just *because* you can. You don't need to resort to magick to learn this; you can learn it from simply living.

*If* you pay attention that is.

Most people don't, it seems.

I hope this is helpful.

I suppose some would call where I live, inside the 48 state area, third world, but yes, I have seen these things too. I am a natural skeptic and I've been convinced. I live on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico 90 miles from New Orleans. If I need a voodoo spell performed, I know where to go and who to see. I don't have any desire to get into voodoo, black magic or 'witchcraft' but I am a little more metaphysically oriented than the average American, who is out of touch with reality due to OVER CIVILIZATION.

I believe you.

First I would like to say there is no such thing as black, white, red, or gray magic....just magic! Magic depends on the intent of the person casting the spell.

Many religions practice magic includeing the christian religion. When the catholic priest smudged the altar and room with insence, when the prayers are recited with the congregation, etc.. this is magic.

It is also magic when a witch uses their athame to cast a circle and then burn insence in the area to purify it. Then recites prayers to their diety to aid in the directing of the energy...this is magic.

Vodou has nothing to do with though. Vodou is about serving your ansectors, the lwa (similar to saints), and Bondye (God). There is nothing dark or evil about it. During fets (service) willing participates may become riden (possessed) by the lwa. This is not a bad thing. Possession is considered a blessing given by the lwa. You are the chosen one of the lwa and it is an honor.

Are they demons? No, not at all. It is all voluntary and after you have been riden by the lwa you always benefit. I was cured of high blood pressure and constant heahaches. I believe whole heartely in the religion and practices of Vodou and witchcraft. It is not bad or evil.

But do not take my word for it. Check out these websites to gain a further understanding of the Vodou religion: http://www.sosyetedumarche.com/Vodou_Info/vodou_info.html and http://members.aol.com/racine125/index1.html#lessons

I've seen a few strange and unexplainable things in my time, at least while I was in New Orleans.

Now some of this can be explained by Psychology. Possession can be chalked up to Dissociative Identity Disorder (commonly known as Multiple Personality Disorder), or possible Bipolar disorder. This is one reason that the Catholic Church has anyone suspected of Possession be examined by doctors and psychologists before anything else.

From a spiritual end, belief is a powerful thing. Like they say, faith can move mountains. I can't explain why, when I was at the grave of Marie Laveau (the voodoo queen of New Orleans) , I asked to get home to Virginia safely. I was in a broken down 1983 Lincoln continental. The car gave me no trouble till after I got home. No way to explain it but luck.

magic is magic...there is no color correction associated with it nor is it skittle-ized for a tasty rainbow flavor. Magic is a tool, like a shovel, that has a specific role. If you don't know how to use it and you have to ask what it is, you need more education about what it is supossed to be. all magic can be described as no color or all color but only when it is tossed in a blended and mixed up does it come out with a color. If you are interested in casting and crafting just to cast and craft, you have no business using the magic.

I believe that there are any number of things that science is still trying to prove or disprove in the world. Magic as it is known to practitioners of Voodoo and Witchcraft can and does work. As upsetting the idea is to some people, magic as done by Wiccans is very similar to any other form of prayer. I personally know a medium who has other "things" speak through her. Black magic is just more recognized as people are more than willing to believe the worst than work for the best.

I think you are more open-minded and thus more intelligent than most Westerners. See, here in the West, we worship the Christian God (but only in a political sense), and Modern Medicine.

It's actually very sad. Maybe you can talk some sense into these people.

Good luck,
a Pagan Priestess of the "white-magick" variety.

It all most certainly exists. I have seen things too. As a matter of fact I have created things. I for one believe in the mind as a powerful tool. If the human animal could just get past their own vain existence, the possibilities could be endless. These people you speak of are capable of the things you saw because they believe in them. If you believe in something enough, (especially as a group mentality) your mind can manifest it to reality.

The problem is, science has it's own "dirty little secret". To be honest, I think alot of scientists are ashamed of the roots of science.

Chemistry came from Alchemy.
Astronomy's roots go back to Astrology.

Many of the modern sciences roots are in magic and the occult, and today's Skeptics don't like to admit where they come from.
