If I was a man and a woman said that to me....I would think she wants me to sleep with her..but if there was something horrible going on and someone just didn't want to be alone for the security of knowing I was just there....I would hope to know the difference. (but I'm not a man)

Depends on the age group but an adult guy or at least me would think, ok I have her respect and she feels comfortable around me and enjoys my company.
But the question is very vague... there are many complicating variable which could greatly affect the answer to your question
