This isn't a matter of laziness, I had a doctor's appointment when the answers were given to study in class...I already knew the answer to the first one but I thought that question might be a bit less overwhelming to welcome folks in.

I don't have time to look up, but I have the following;

1. 435 (not counting non-voting members, ie D.C., Virgin Islands)
5. 100
6. 6 years
7. Every two years 1/3 are up for re-election
8. The Governor of the state they represent
9. Franking privilege (named for Ben Franklin)
10. They can be recalled by the voters or removed by fellow members (see Senator Bob Packwood)

14. It is call re-districting. When done to an extreme, it is called gerrymandering. I think it is named after Aldridge Gerry of Mass.

16. Special election is held to serve out the remainder of their term.

I don't know what the book is afterwards, but I will answer the original question. There are 435 members of the House of Representatives.

Try reading the Constitution itself (first link below). Article I covers Congress.

Then, Wikipedia provides a good overview of some of the concepts you want, and has links to other sites.

Do the research yourself. You'll learn so much more than if you just accept what people tell you.
