My husband's grandmother is turning 80yo. Unfortunately we won't be able to make it to her party. She is very sweet, she is in great shape and loves her family, especially our 10 month old daughter. We would like to make something nice for her. Any suggestions?

80 years is a milestone, for anyone. I'd suggest some thing that immortalizes her life, such as, something personal like a portrait or even a huge framed picture of her and all the family members surrounding her picture, (pictures or her grown kids, grandkids, great-grand kids...etc....) All the family, that kinda thing. Truly something PERSONAL to show how the family loves her.

Depends on your financial situation and hers.

Most people of age don't need anything...except help with chores or money. If she is on a fixed income and has a hard time of making ends meet a basket of necessities is a good present. Things like soap, tissues, lotion, powder...don't limit it to just bath items throw in a few chocolates, dried fruits boxes of jello's and puddings. Stamps and envelopes are always needed, too.

If you are limited to spending, then send a card and ask for a day when the three of you can come for an all day visit. Let her enjoy the baby while your husband does some odd jobs for her and you can maybe clean out a closet for her or fix a nice meal for all of you...company is the most treasured gift elderly love.

If she doesn't need anything done and you can afford it, spend the day with her, take her out to eat, go to the park, maybe just time spent with her in your home. Let her know how much she means to you.

Bring her on a trip to a museum. Let her guide you to the sections that she would like to see. Let her reminisce on the past and talk to you about it. It will bring back fond memories for her and you will get a great first hand perspective.

A REALLY good lucking man... maybe a chip and dale guy. That'll make her smile for many days to come.

If you can knit, why not give her a sweater? Or something personalised like a mug with a photo on it?

bake her a cake or something, make a card, or make a photo album of your family so she can look at it since she adores your baby.
