Respect is, as is most things, subjective.... unless one is wanting an absolute definition. The absolute definition of respect is total acceptance. Not a hint of resistance to what another does... and how is this possible, you ask? Well, it is only possible if you know who the other person is, and this is possible only if you know who you are.
If you know, for instance, that each of us consists of three simultaneously existing realms of vibrational energy, and only one of these, the Spiritual realm, is of an absolute nature, you know where your Attn Aspect of Apapsyche needs to be in order to "see" who another is.... and to achieve this level of understanding one must first discover this within oneself.
Short of this, respect is simply an accepting of what another does as good, or at least not bad relative to ones own ideas, beliefs, and prejudices. Self respect is the same.... that is, one respects oneself when one is experiencing oneself not in conflict with ones beliefs regarding what is good and proper.
