We're trying to build a cedar closet and we need to cut the cedar. Unfortunately, we don't have a circular saw. We do have a jigsaw. Will the jigsaw be too rough for the cedar (and thus break the wood) or will it work to make our dimensional cuts?

Thanks!

Why don't you just go buy a couple of hand saws? One for cutting along the grain, and one for cutting across the grain. Cedar is soft wood, and a good hand saw will make quick work of it, give straight cuts, are inexpensive, and easy to store. You don't need extension cords, or ear plugs. Cedar dust can irritate some people, so wear long sleeves, and a cheap dust mask.
Warning: Use of hand tools may promote healthy exercise, and result in fewer missing fingers.

Yes, with a fine toothed blade. Tape the cutting edges and cut from the back side.

Yes, just cut the piece from the back side so you don't chip the face side, provide you are using an up stroke blade.
