I think it's the dryer actually... but yes, we all have one....
And if you don't have one, there's probably a coin operated one near you.

Where do they go? I gave up and now either pin or they have sock savers at places like Walmart that keeps socks together in the washer and through the dry cycle. You can also buy a mess bag to put them in and then just wash the bag. When my daughter was going up we kept a little basket just for stray socks. Every few weeks she would go through them and sometimes we could mate up a few pair. Never throw them away until you know for sure there is no mate. Look under beds, backs of closets, gym bags, etc

Yeah, but I figured out where the monster's hidden!!! When you're taking the clothing out of the washer, the socks fall between the washer and the dryer and the monster sucks them under either the washer or the dryer! I found four socks under there, all different kinds that I've lost over the years. Haha.

I DO NOT HAVE A SOCK MONSTER. I did when I was young. I got rid of him in a very tricky way. I never let my laundry get one load ahead of me. Color, Whites, and Jeans. I have a 3 basket sorter and when one is full, I wash that load. That way the socks are in there together and they come out of the dryer together. When I used to let the laundry pile up and do it all on way day, I lost all kinds of socks. This really works.

If someone says they have not lost a sock in the laundry they either:
A: don't do laundry
B: don't wear socks
C: are lying
I have tons of single, lonely socks. They used to have a mate but recently divorced. From time to time, I evict those loosers... put them in the trash-kick them to the curb on trash pick up day. One day, my friend, you'll find it within you to do the same. Be strong.

We've just got a new one and luckily no sign of a sock monster yet, we've put sock monster repellant arount the washing machine to prevent one getting in, you should try it, its available in most good supermarkets!

Yes, the monster used to live at our house while my children were growing up. There are some clips available now that you can clip the socks together that will help.
