My mum's car is less than 2 years old and after the car has been going for about 15 mins, it develops a high pitched whistling sound. When she touches the brake, it stops instantly but starts again as soon as the accelerator is used. What could it be?

Could be a vacuum line leak. Could be a brake system component. Since it is so new, you most likely should take it to the shop if still under warranty. Check with the dealer to see if there are any recalls on the vehicle, maybe its not just her car.

I recognise the problem - got rid of my Almera after 2.5 years,
had nothing but trouble with it.

Had Nissans before but they were Japanese made - what a
difference !

Now a Korean-made KIA - no problems

Yup it is the brakes. Get them cleaned out and the pads checked. I would do it myself but I can't advise you to because the brake dust is nasty stuff.

A whistling or screeching sound would be one of the fan belts.
If it is a metal screeching then it is the brakes.
Best to get it looked at as something is about to fail

Asbestos dust in the brake drum - have them serviced.
