Can anyone suggest the best way to get nail varnish on perfectly?

I have always found it difficult to put nail varnish on and get it looking good on all nails so any suggestions would be good.

use a q-tip and polish remover to get off any that you get on your skin or let it dry and the next day take a wet wash cloth and gently exfoilate anound the nails this also promotes growth

i do this about every 5 days

Use clear nail varnish if you're really that bad at putting it on. That's what I do, it doesn't matter if you mess it up because you can't really see it and if you get it on the skin around your fingers it flakes off anyway when you get your hands wet. Painting your nails clear makes them look natural and just a bit shiny. A good day wear look. it doesn't look like you've tried too hard, just made an effort. If you paint your nails with a colour when it starts to come off which it will probably after a couple of days it makes you look a bit trampy, chipped nails are not a good look. Thats another good thing about clear nail varnish, if you can't be bothered to take it off, it doesn't matter, leave it on till it grows out!

there is a specific way of putting on your nail polish and that is to go from the bottom up to the top of your nail in the middle, then do the edges. One nail should only take 3 strokes of a nail polish brush.

And the first answer is correct you do need a good base followed by 2 coats of colour and a good top coat. Also make sure your cuticles are trimmed and pushed back, This gives you nicer looking nails!

Actually what you need to do is get rid of the ridges and buff and polish them first with a buffer. Go to Sally beauty supply and get an ultra fine block sander for about 30 cents and ruff them up a little before you polish it will last so much longer on your nails that way. Then one base coat should be enough. Then 2 coats of polish and dry good in between. Then top coat clear. The whole process should take about an hour but you will have nails to die for. I use a cuticle stick wrapped with a little cotton dipped in nail poilsh remover to take off the excess it's much finer to get it all off.
