I have a Toshiba Equium M70-339, it is only a couple of months old.
I have to remove the battery and use the power pack to use the laptop. Has any one else had a similar problem?
I suppose I'm going to make a trip back to PC World for a replacement!!!

Toshiba batteries have this problem but PC World should be able to replace since it must be under the warranty period. I use the power cord whenever possible and very seldom (only while travelling) use the battery. It lasts longer. Earlier one was Toshiba which i was not happy with. And ultimately changed for a local one in my country when i last visited (you see many are available at less than 1/2 the price of the original one, it helps me sometimes).

My laptop currently doesn't power up on battery at all but will work fine when I use the power pack. Given that I have had it for about 1 month I am quite peeved by this.

The computer still tells me that the battery is full so I am not sure what the problem is. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Toshiba Batteries sucks mate....it happened to me twice. After 2 months of purchase my battery fluctuated alot, when i charged it it was ok, when i wanna use it, the computer makes the weird space sound and the battery becomes dead. I replaced with a new battery and the same thing happend. TOSHIBA HAS THE BEST LAPTOPS BUT WORST BATTERIES. Be sure you have atleast two batteries with you just incase if the problem arise again.

Ha-Ha.
Why the hell did you go to PC world? They really are complete thickets when it comes to technology.

Have you been treating the battery as you should? Ie: fully charge, fully discharge, repeat process? Leaving them plugged in all the time damages the battery.

Will the battery not work at all or does it just have a short lifespan?

If it fails completely then it prob a duff batt, but they are extensivle tested before leaving the factory....
could be the charging curcuit in the lappy....

What type of battery is it ? Li-Ion? Ni-Mh? both should last at least about 10000 charges...

My tosh battery last about 45 mins, but it is 10 yrs old, and the person who owned the lappy before me ran it on the mains constanly.

Hi i had an equium laptop and it was forever turning itself off it i slightly moved. Also sometime would not turn on after logged off. Had to keep taking the battery out and putting it back in. I phoned and they said there was a bios update for them or something but i could not get this to work. so returned it and got Sony. best thing i ever did. good luck fella.

It sounds like your battery has leaked, and what you see is dried battery acid. Remove it from your laptop so that it doesn't damage your computer. It's probably a battery model that they are recalling, so you can get a free replacement for it.
