All sexual reproduction results in biodiversity. Each individual plant or animal has its own unique DNA, but when impregnation occurs, the chromosomes mix, creating a new unique DNA in the offspring. The more closely related the parents, the more similar the offspring's DNA will be to theirs. Greater biodiversity comes from completely unrelated parents.

A clone, on the other hand, will have identical DNA to the parent. Cloning is most often practiced in the plant community when plants identical to the parent are desired.
