I have just moved into a new hope with granite counter tops. I am concerned about the finish but not sure what it really should be like. It almost seems like a step was skipped in the finishing. There are many many small scratch like spots that you can feel with your finger tip as well as with your finger nail when you move it across the surface. Should the finish be completely smooth? Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

Some granites have different textures. The more unusual, attractive, and expensive granites often have features that can be viewed as flaws. I show one, called "Rain Forest", that we back with fiberglass, for strength. It costs a bunch and is very desirable. Granite needs to be sealed on a regular basis. I tell my customers to do it every six months. Finally, no matter what else you do, do not go to Home Depot. The people they get to do their installations are the last people I'd hire to do anything. Find a reputable stone dealer and get the sealing stuff from him. It's cheap and easy to use. Enjoy your granite tops. I'm sure they're beautiful.

I have granite tops as well they should be smooth and very clear, if they are scratches the contractors that work on your new home must of used it as a work bench, call your builder, or last home owner about the problem. You can have them buffed out and that should fix the problem. They will come to your home and fix it. I work on new homes, I do the stone and brick I'm a mason contractor, I have seen it before.

Just apply a filler paste and buff smooth. BTW did you move to a new home or to New Hope, PA?
