I would say the pain is right in the middle of my back but about as high up as my shoulder blades - the pain isnt in my shoulder

Your posture is wrong... you're thinking pregnant and forcing your body to react as well... being pregnant is a natural state... been going on since Eve... it's not an illness!
Hold yourself up straight, keep your shoulders back... don't let the weight go forward... your spine isn't meant to take you back on all fours!
If you want a normal labour and want to retain your shape... keep walking like a lady and sitting like one too, then you will... don't slouch, don't slop, don't use pregnancy as an excuse to laze about and be waited on!
I've had ten pregnancies... delivered six safely (now 43-23 years old) and never lost my shape or posture, despite arthritis in my spine!
I still hold myself up well and have an hour glass shape and a VERY flat stomach compared to all my mates... and I'm 61.

Could it be trrapped wind?
I've had trapped wind for the first time in my life since I've been pregnant!
The pain in your shoulders sounds like what I suffered after I had a laparoscopy last year - they inflate your abdomen with gas and as the gas has nowhere to go it settles in your upper chest and causes back and shoulder pain.
It could well be trapped wind. Try taking something like Wind-Eze and see if it helps.

If I were you Id have your doctor check your gall bladder,, I had similar pain and I never checked it out until the very end of my pregnancy... then after I had my son I had to have it removed immediately...

It could be a pinched nerve. You carry yourself differently when pregnant while your weight redistribute itself.
