When I was a kid I used to rub a balloon on my nylon jumper and make it stick to the wall or ceiling. Would this work with furry animals and if so what is the largest one my ceiling would take ? Does anyone have any idea ?

Depends really. If its a really flat surface then you should be able to get away with a kitten or very small dog. If its Artex then maybe only large rat will stick. However, take into account of the creatures fluffiness to weight ratio. Some rabbits are very fluffy but don't weigh a great deal but your average guinea pig is very dense with not much fluff. PLEASE NOTE: when attempting to stick mammals to the ceiling with static, it is probable that they may become unstuck when the static begins to discharge. Once the creature is up there it is best to stand below them with some sort of soft landing contraption. I find a washing basket with a feather pillow in the bottom makes an excellent crash mat for the statically stuck household pet.
Also note - large dogs and squirmy cats will NEVER stick to the ceiling, however much you rub them on your jumper first. Plus this just tends to make them cross!
