The Rumsfeld plan to convert each of the Army’s divisions into five brigade units of action is reminiscent of the Army’s failed Pentomic reorganization, which was implemented in the 1950’s, only to be abandoned several years later. The plan’s creators attempted to pass off these new 1800 man understrength regiment-sized units as brigades, despite the fact that they are planned to be between one-third and one-half the size of a modern combat brigade. This is reminiscent of Adolf Hitler’s obsession with increasing the numbers of divisions in the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War and his insistence at manning them at only one-third to one-half of the division’s normal manpower to present the illusion of greater numerical strength.

Actually a organization like this saves money.

By having multiple small forces that specialize in differing area of combat you can decrease the stress on a large force having to master ALL the different areas of combat.

Its the equivalent of having thousands of small "SWAT" teams instead of one big police force- with each smaller unit being able to specialize in a type of combat or a specific terrain we will get much better results.

Seeing that warfare has changed to littoral areas and urban environments and moved away from huge field based battles, this reorganization should have been done years ago.

Specialization is key to management, the need to employ it here is valid.

No wonder GWB is such an idiot. Look at all his advisers he has around him. Rumsfeld is stupid. I do not care how modern the weapons are, a brigade is still a brigade and a division is still a division. No one can disguise numbers. Sending in a new "division" against another army's regular division is suicide. I guess he is thinking that it wouldn't be a problem we have modern weapons.

No, but your question shows that you don't think much for yourself.
