First of all, a firewall is a SPAM/virus protector/security for your computer. I had the same problem, I couldn't use AIM because of that. You could go to your pop-up blocker at the tools section on the top of the screen; go to pop-up settings and tell the computer to allow MSN Messanger. If that doesn't work, you'll have to use alternate messangers. There is an easy one I use called www.meebo.com, where you can sign onto AIM, Yahoo, MSN, GTalk and Jabber. No downloading is necessary and it's free. It's actually convenient. You might have to resort to that, because if you allow MSN Messanger and something happens to the firewall then viruses can come.

You need to set the firewall so that it will let msn go through it.
A firewall is an internet security system
Go to Start> Connet to> Show all
Right click your internet connection and select properties
Go to advance> Setting
Tick on msn to allow it to pass through firewall
