Yes, this is exactly what nature intended to happen. The soil needs to be aerated in order for plants to grow in it. You could spend hours digging up and turning the soil to accomplish this, OR you can say thank you to the worms who are doing it for you for free!

This is a very good thing. Not only does this aerate the soil and keep it from getting compacted (roots won't grow in soil that's not loose enough) but worms help fertilize the soil as well.

sounds like your garden is just right! If the soil is hard and compact, the plants have a hard time .
I'm in Michigan, and there are places where there is a lot of clay in the soil, the earthworms loosen it up, and the plants do much better.
Worms are natures composters, and a great indications of great soil!

Worms are very good for your garden. They natures natural tillers. This loosens the ground for better water absorption and helps condition the soil too. Plus, if you like to fish, you always have free bait. I usually catch about ten for fishing, what I not use I return to the garden.

Worms are a sign that you've done something right. Like little garden elves, not only will they loosen and aerate soil for you but they will make nutrient rich 'castings' from what they eat. People pay big bucks for these lil worm poop pellets so count your blessings!!
Here's a site about worms & their goodness:
